San Diego has become a world class destination for photo crews the world over. Attracted by beautiful locations, a large diverse model base, experienced production managers, “the best weather in the United States”, and a photo friendly local government, San Diego now hosts photo production crews all year around.
For most larger productions San Diego Model Management provides free production services including: |
- Hotel arrangements
- Location scouting
- Airport pickup
- Motor home arrangements
- Casting services
- Catering arrangements
- On location services
|
How the process works:
1) Client lets us know what type of production and dates they have in mind.
2) We make all arrangements in advance through email and on-line databases.
3) Client arrives and is picked up at airport and taken to their hotel.
4) Client is taken on reccee the next day to all previously arranged locations.
5) Client conducts model auditions arranged through on-line database.
6) Client proceeds with production as previously scheduled.
7) Client leaves on-time and under budget, in other words – happy!

FAQ:
Are permits necessary for commercial shoots on public lands in San Diego?
The answer is to check with the San Diego Film Commission and they will let you know. Whether they decide you need one or not, the process is free and they can help you no matter what size your project. You will also need a permit if you want a property release from the city after shooting on public land.
You can contact the Film Commission at (619) 234-3456. The permits are free and everything can be done over the phone and fax.
As part of the permit process you will be asked to provide the correct insurance coverage. You will need a certificate of insurance covering you and naming the City of San Diego, County of San Diego, and the San Diego Unified Port District as additionally insured from your insurance company. Call the Film Commission for exact details or visit their insurance information page. This coverage is usually very inexpensive and worth the added security for your production.
Child Labor Laws in California
Child labor laws are in effect in California. All children in our Kids Division already have "Entertainment Work Permits" and we can arrange, if needed, a certified studio teacher. Basically if you are going to be shooting under 18 year olds on a school day you are going to need a studio teacher. 16 and 17 year olds on a non-school day do not need a studio teacher. Studio teachers normally run about $275 a day, which you pay directly to them. Other laws may apply to a shoot depending upon age of models, length of time worked, time of day etc. More information is available at the Film Commission's site concerning child labor in California.
